This is my first article (essay, if you will) on this site. Please note that these are my beliefs on what is true or false. Meiou Setsuna and King Endymion? There have been many, many rumors floating around that Setsuna is in love with King Endymion. There are also some strange rumors going around that Setsuna had an affair with Endymion and Chibi-Usa is actually her daughter! (Yes, very strange, I know). Well, I have some evidence to show how untrue the affair rumor is, and I'll share my views on why I think Setsuna is not in love with Endymion.

First things first, the affair rumor. Where exactly did I hear this rumor? I actually found it in the sailormoon.org forums. I was a bit appalled when I heard this, I thought it was very strange. The exact rumor, I don't know it word for word, but it went something like this: 'Setsuna had an affair with Endymion. That explains Chibi-Usa's matching color eyes with Setsuna and the fact that they are close, like mother and daughter.' Whoa. Pretty strange rumor that never came up in the manga, isn't it? The fact that Setsuna is in love or had an affair with Endymion is not true and never came into the story anyway (I'll talk more about this later). Well, any true Sailormoon fan who has read the manga or even watched the anime will know that Chibi-Usa is not Setsuna's daughter... obviously, Chibi-Usa is Usagi's daughter. I do not have any other evidence other than the fact that if you read the movie book to Sailormoon S, in the beginning pages of the book is everyone's birthdate, height, blood type, etc. You can clearly see that Chibi-Usa's blood type is different from Setsuna's and she has the blood type of her mother, Usagi, and Setsuna and Mamoru have the same blood type. There is my evidence. Don't believe me? Go ask anyone else. They'll more than likely tell you it is false. And it clearly is false.

On to the most controversial rumor about Setsuna. Although the affair rumor is obviously false, the fact about Setsuna being in love with Endymion is up to the reader. It should be noted that this never came up in the anime, and that Setsuna has no feelings for Mamoru (that is what I assume). In volume 6 of the manga, Endymion visits Sailor Pluto in the time gates. Here is the translation from the Mixx version of Sailor Moon (I heard it is very accurate to the Japanese version):

"Chibi-Usa sees her father, King Endymion, visit Sailor Pluto while she is in the Time Gates.

Endymion: Where has she gone? I felt sure she would be here.

Pluto: King, Small Lady is much stronger than we think. She'll be alright. She's a princess. And Luna P is with her.

Endymion: You're right. Pluto, Sailor Moon fighting the Enemy is getting bad. Lend your help to Sailor Venus and Tuxedo Mask. We're counting on you.

Pluto blushes, and a grin comes to her face: Yes, King. Of course.

Chibi-Usa (thinking): This is the happiest I've seen her. The Pluto I know is always a little sad. She only smiled for me..."

Many people misinterpert the part when Pluto is happy and blushes to Endymion's request, thinking that Pluto is actually 'in love' or has a 'crush' on him. However, my interpertation is very different. I see Pluto as being happy because someone besides Chibi-Usa and Selenity has come to visit her, and the fact that she can actually get away from being in the gates and actually helping the other senshi. The part when she blushes is because of the fact that Endymion says, "We're counting on you." In my opinion, the statement makes her feel more important as a senshi, since she is needed to help the senshi. Also, I've been told that Bishojo manga is *not* supposed to be read in so deeply, and that it is supposed to just follow the plot of the story. If it were true that she was in love with Endymion, wouldn't the author implement something to show more of the attraction? Since she didn't, and since it never really came clearly in the story, I'm led to believe it is untrue.

Setsuna loves and is very loyal to her queen and would never do anything to harm her. Even if she were in love with Endymion, she wouldn't act upon her love and wouldn't try to steal Endymion away because she loves her queen so much. Many people (particulary fanfic writers) will think that Setsuna hates Neo Queen Serenity and is envious of their relationship. I may not have evidence, but I believe this to be untrue, even if she were in love with Endymion.

In conclusion, I believe the only 'relationship' that Setsuna ever had with Endymion is a platonic one. She respects her King and Queen greatly and is very loyal, even with her duty as a solitary soldier of the Time Gates. Setsuna is a very emotionally and physically strong woman. She is able to withstand loneliness from her duty as a soldier in solitude, and still remain loyal to her queen and not feel any hatred for giving her such a duty.

I'm not trying to tell those people who actually believe that Setsuna loves Endymion that they are wrong. In fact, they aren't wrong. It is actually a matter of opinion. Many people interpert things differently, so if I somehow offended anyone, my apologies. Thanks for reading. All comments are gladly welcome.
